The evening session of string classes at St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church on Wednesday 18 March 2026 featured a strong programme of cello, violin and double bass performances, adjudicated by Ellen Martin.
Proceedings began with the Level 4 Cello Solo class, where Zara Smith (Robert Douglas Memorial School), Elizabet Black (TCSoA), Oliver Longden (Perth High), Jenson Donald (TCSoA Primary) and Annabel Knowelden (Morrison’s Academy) performed Arnold Trowell’s Arioso.
In the Level 5 Cello Solo class, Jan Kruczynski and Oskar Nowak (both St John’s RC Academy) were joined by Esther Alsmeyer (Perth Academy), presenting works by Tchaikovsky, Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms.
The Level 5 Violin Solo class included performances from Libby Dean (Kinross Primary), Michalina Maluk (St John’s RC Academy), Emma Thompson and Alexander Baijal (both Kinross High), with repertoire ranging from Manning Sherwin to George Frideric Handel and J. B. Loeillet.
Advanced violin competitors Emma Hall (Kinross High) and Julia Pojda (St John’s Academy) performed Arensky’s Serenade, followed by James Whyte (Perth High School) in the Advanced Double Bass class with Saint-Saëns’ L’Éléphant.
The evening concluded with the Open violin class, featuring Finn Gilfillan performing Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor, and the Open cello class, where Lauren Hargrave (Morrison’s Academy) performed Dvořák’s Rondo Op.94. Winners were to be announced.
