A captivating afternoon of exceptional young vocal talent at Perform in Perth 2026 is now available to watch, following the release of a full recording from the session held at St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church.
Taking place on Tuesday 17 March, the afternoon programme brought together some of the region’s most promising young singers, performing before adjudicator Libby Crabtree in a varied and highly competitive series of classes.
The session opened with Class 106: Vocal Solo for Girls aged 14 or 15, competing for the prestigious Christine Donaghy Cup. Audiences were treated to a refined selection of classical and early music, including Schubert’s Minnelied, Purcell’s Ah! How Pleasant, and Byrd’s My Little Sweet Darling, performed by talented entrants from Glenalmond College and Julie Young Dance Studios.
Scottish heritage took centre stage in Class 107: Scots Songs, where traditional favourites such as Afton Water and A Red, Red Rose showcased both vocal skill and national pride.
A highlight of the afternoon was the ever-popular Class 104: Disney Songs (Ages 12–13), featuring a vibrant programme of beloved musical numbers. From Colours of the Wind to I See the Light and Mother Knows Best, performers from Pirrie Performing Arts, Perth High School, and Julie Young Dance Studios delivered confident and engaging performances that delighted the audience.
Senior competitors demonstrated impressive musical maturity in the later classes, including:
- Class 112 & 111 (Ages 16–17), featuring Scots song interpretations and classical repertoire such as Scarlatti’s O cessate di piagarmi
- Class 113: Musical Theatre (pre-2000), where standout performances included songs from Les Misérables, The Sound of Music, and Wicked
- Class 092: Boys – Changing Voices, rounding off the afternoon with expressive renditions of Caro mio ben and Corner of the Sky
Each class saw strong competition, with winners awarded prestigious trophies including the Mr & Mrs R.W. Donaghy Cup and the William Bickford Dow Gold Medal.
The newly released recording offers a chance to relive the atmosphere of this memorable session and celebrate the dedication and artistry of Perthshire’s young performers.
