Music lovers were treated to a lively and uplifting morning at Perform in Perth, where a packed programme of young performers showcased remarkable talent across a variety of disciplines.
The session concluded on a high note with a spirited and imaginative “Music is Fun” performance from Muthill Primary School, directed by Denise Crighton Ward. Their entertaining set featured Superspy and Batman by Alan Fernie, alongside a creative improvisation on C, D and E by Alan Pring—bringing smiles to the audience and perfectly capturing the joy of making music together.
Earlier in the morning, the harp classes demonstrated impressive musicality from emerging performers. In the Beginners Harp Solo class, Millie Nicolson (Perth Academy) performed The Purple Bamboo by Samuel Milligan, while Connie Broad (Dunning Primary School) delighted with Barn Dance Memory by Jane Weidensaul. The Transitional Harp Solo class featured Emilia Gregory (High School of Dundee), who gave a confident rendition of O’er the Sea to Skye, arranged by Meinir Heulyn.
Traditional Scottish music took centre stage in the Scots Fiddle Solo (Under 16) class, where competitors delivered a rich programme of airs, strathspeys and reels. Finlaggan Wightman and Ben Henderson (both Blairgowrie High School) and Jamie Dow (Bertha Park) all impressed with expressive and technically accomplished performances.
In the Accordion Solo (Elementary) class, Ramsay Campbell (Blairgowrie High School) brought energy and character to Barnyards O’ Dalgetty, highlighting the enduring appeal of Scottish traditional music among young performers.
The morning session reflected the vibrant musical culture nurtured by Perform in Perth, with high standards, enthusiastic participation, and strong support from teachers and families alike.
Audiences are warmly encouraged to attend upcoming sessions and experience the exceptional young talent still to come throughout the festival.
